The Prefecture of Athens is a Local Authority B grade, general power wielding public authority, that carries the responsibility of the management of local affairs and carry out government services and projects assigned by law of the State in the prefectures.

Has management officers elected by direct, universal and secret suffrage four-year term. These institutions are: Prefect, the County Council and six (6) Prefectural Committees.

Includes 45 municipalities and 3 villages and population about 2.6 million.
